ROTARY DIABETES ACTION GROUP
In recent years, World Diabetes Day has focused particularly on raising awareness of the complications of diabetes affecting the heart, eyes, kidneys, and feet. In 2007, the United Nations marked the Day for the first time with the passage of the United Nations World Diabetes Day Resolution in December 2006, which made the existing World Diabetes Day an official United Nations World Health Day.
Exciting news this week. Rotary International formally approved a new Rotary Action Group for diabetes.
This is a highly significant step that recognizes the increasing involvement of Rotarians in diabetes projects worldwide and the need for civil society to engineer a suitable response to the growing pandemic.
The many diabetes projects that Rotarians are involved in include IDFs own Life for a Child Program and foot-care projects soon to be established in the Caribbean.
Rotarian Action Groups conduct international service projects that further the goals of the organization.
It was a Rotary Action Group that led the tremendous work that Rotary have undertaken to tackle polio worldwide.
The ‘Unite for Diabetes’ campaign, led by the International Diabetes Federation, resulted in United Nations Resolution 61/225 World Diabetes Day. This landmark resolution also recognized diabetes as “a chronic, debilitating and costly disease associated with major complications that pose severe risks for families, countries and the entire world.”
Diabetes is a major concern today. It is a growing problem with no solution and is affective millions of lives just like cancer or any other disease without a cure did. Though it is not as vengeful as cancer, it affects the lives nevertheless. Be it a small child or an old lady, it affects them.
These are new born babies diagnosed with diabetes and these children will never see the light of the day for their health issue. They can never lead a normal life and as time goes by, they will only face more complications. Diabetes is not considered a disease by many doctors and is claimed to be a genetic problem. However, it claims the lives of many people just like any disease would.
Rotary International recognized this growing problem and realized something has to be done to help people. There are many people who are dying or suffering more than they should, due to unawareness or lack of medicines. Rotary group brings doctors to conduct tests on the under privileged and diagnose. Those with a severe problem are referred to other doctors and recommended treatments while those who have type 2 diabetes (the type that occurs in older people) are given access to medicines that can help them live a better life.
Type 1 diabetes is the scarier type which has no cure and can affect the life of a child and can potentially ruin their future and dreams. The medication for this type is expensive and it has to be given through their lives, which is a great expense to be borne even by a middle income group. Hence this organization comes together to provide monetary and diagnostic needs to help the poor.
People who are actively contributing to this cause need not necessarily forego comforts in their lives. They can invest a part of their income in the stock market or in binary options through Millionaire Blueprint, an automated trading platform, and donate the money they make in such investments. They don’t need to know about binary trading or worry about making the right decisions, the system will do it for them. This software has all the details required ot make investment decisions and the robots move the funds based on the trade signals they receive. There is no room for human error or instinctive decisions that go wrong.
This will not only help them contribute a sizeable amount on a regular basis, but will also encourage them to save more and help more, which is what the world needs today.Though the population is increasing by the minute, the number of people willing to help the needy are still very little.
Diabetes among the poor is not the only disease that requires the attention of the world. Diabetes everywhere requires awareness and necessary action to be taken. People should be made aware of such a condition and should be educated about how to handle a person affected with diabetes.
A diabetic person’s diet needs are different, they cannot afford to get injured severely, which is very difficult to control in children and young adults, they cannot ignore an health ailment. Regular camps and checkups can help people become more aware of this condition
